Calapan Experience (Sept 18)

By: Arturo Valdez

We lifted anchor at 7AM and paddled our way out of the Baradero Bay. By 8AM we caught an easterly morning breeze towards Calapan. It was a cloudy day, very pleasant for sailing and not too hot and sunny until we were met by a Philippine Coast Guard rubber dinghy guiding us to Anahaw Beach resort our overnight place of stay.

Representatives of the provincial and city LGU’s warmly welcomed us as we dropped anchor at 12 noon. I talked with Calapan City Mayor in the phone and got a stream of visitors headed by no less than Mindoro Oriental Governor Arnan Panaligan dropping by to socialize with us. In the evening the local mountaineering society, the Halcom Mountaineer Society came in full force to spend the evening with us over food and drinks.

By this time PCG SAR 3502 headed by Captain Ferdinand Velasco was always around to provide assistance whenever needed in their area of coverage-Batangas District of the PCG.
